TOMY's xiao camera takes pictures and prints them like a Polaroid!

xiao

xiao TIP-521 (Japanese site) is TOMY's new camera that lets you print photos immediately. xiao pronounced as "sha-oh" not "siao" as I've been told by the TOMY folks, is a full featured 5 megapixel digital camera with a high resolution display.

The real beauty of the xiao is its built-in printer using ZINK Zero Ink technology. The printer uses no ink and therefore there are never any messy cartridges to change or get clogged. The camera accepts only 5cm x 7.5cm ZINK Photo Paper sheets. The backing of the ZINK Photo Paper can also be peeled away to turn the photos into fun photo stickers.

xiao also has an infrared input port enabling it to receive and print photos taken by other infrared enabled cameras or mobile phones. SD Memory Card compatibility (up to 4GB) can be used to store thousands of photos or is another way to transfer photos taken on another device to xiao for printing or to export photos taken with xiao.

And for some test shots taken using the xiao, check out this photoset here. The xiao costs US$499 at AudioCubes.
