And the most retarded Miss Singapore is... Miss Ris Low
Seriously how the fark did Ris Low (video above) win the Miss Singapore World pageant? Her English is so shockingly bad that I'm too embarrassed to watch and listen to her speak. Her looks, so average. And she's crowned Miss Singapore World? Poor girl. I don't blame her. It's not her fault. It's the judges that should be shot. Yes, the entire judging committee of Miss Singapore World! You people should admit you made a terrible mistake. What's wrong with you folks? Are you blind and deaf? And don't ever judge a competition again. What a disgrace! Singapore can do much better. So much better. But we end up with Miss Ris "I'd wear something booms" Low. God help us.
Update: Miss Singapore World Ris Low says, "I know my diction isn't very good. But I am trying to improve, because I want to make Singapore proud."

I'm no fan of pageants, but for goodness sake... IT'S A BEAUTY CONTEST. NOT A LINGUISTIC competition. Look at the big picture, not everyone (even in European countrries) in the world speaks English. So if their English is bad I guess they all don't stand a chance to win then.
That said, she obviously was what the judges were looking for... (It's like you don't need a car with a power engine to win a showroom-shine contest)

Those from European countries cant speak english is ok, cos its not their first language. My korean neighbor's daughter, who started learning english a year ago after moving here can speak better than her.
Producers, this is not the way to show a finished video. Please edit next time. Remember, it's not what you show that determines a good story. It's what you leave out.

and from what i recall of all sg winners, other than eunice olsen, chantel goh, charmaine harn... the rest all require cosmetic teeth surgery!

it takes courage to participate which not many SG gals are willing to do.. Perhaps you should also view the rest of the other interviews beore making rude remarks..

hey, i dunno her, but these self righteous critics need to be aware that SG still sourcing talent from overseas to run our corporations! yes, SG lack talent, or if there is any, they are too apathetic to stand up and be counted.

She is probably the only contestant that follow instructions.
Now we know why Miss Singapore can never make it to the top half of Miss world.

I can't imagine Miss Ris representing Singapore in an international competition. I believe she will reflect badly on Singapore unless she practice very very very hard or a miracle happens.
Having a poor command and pronunciation is one thing. But her answers and poise in answering showed a lack of brain matter, wit and maturity to represent Singapore in international event.
She should start reading more newspaper.
poor thing has a slight speech impediment (check out her overbite and subsequent articulation problems) which makes her hard to understand. also, not very mature opinions, which makes her sound dumb. and then, there's the weird pauses, the flirtatious style of talking that doesn't work with a female interviewer, and of course her ruthless slaughter of English. I'd say she has a good chance of winning the title.
Gosh, it's unbelieveable that Ris Low was chosen to represent S'pore! No wonder Singaporeans have been laughed at for our Singlish, mannerism, et al! Has every judge on the panel been blinded? Or was she the best out of the lot of the same class! It's indeed a pain to watch her and hear her speak. She appeared to be unconfident, uncertain... didn't seem to know what's she going to say next, especially the part where she's going to mention her faculty. To be fair to Ris, she did look good on photo but that's only on photo!
Singaporeans' standard of English may not always be as perfect as those of the British, but definitely, it is not as trashy as her's. Sure, we do speak English and Singlish, most of the times using a varied mix of the two especially with people whom we're familiar with. More importantly is the ability to interchange the use of them. Ms Low obviously has either no sense of standard English to begin with or she just doesn't know the place and time to use Singlish. She definitely seems to be courting her death by presenting her pathetic command of English to internet viewers as a representative of Miss Singapore. Most Singaporeans try their best to speak proper English (to their best efforts) at formal events. I personally doubt Ms Low's understanding of her participation in the nationwide competition at the time of the filming for her promotional video. That being said, I do believe she will show improvement of the language for the international competition, though not to the level where she can easily put out the local flames, yet.
