Spotted Japanese Yoyo world champion and TV personality Performer Soul (Yu Kawada) when I was at Asakusa, Tokyo! Performer Soul won the World Yoyo Contest in 2000 when he was only 17 years old. He then later appeared in a few Japanese TV shows as an actor.

Transformers 30th Anniversary Exhibition Singapore celebrates 30 years of evolution of the much beloved and world famous Transformers series. Spotted in the exhibition held at the Science Centre Singapore is this showcase of repainted Transformers toys by Sang Zhong.

Sang Zhong has built great interest in toy models and figures since childhood. After he graduated in fashion design from Donghua University, he still kept the passion for models and figures. He began working on Transformers DIY work, and gradually fell in love with repainting the toys.

Upon the release of the Transformers movie, a series of toys was released in the market. However, due to mass production, the toys were not quite satisfying and their look - especially the colours - appeared quite different from the movies. Some were also disappointed with the plastic texture of the toys. To solve this problem, Sang Zhong started his re-painting project on Transformers toys, hoping to give the toys a rebirth.

Sang Zhong's project is to repaint the original Transformers toys with an ornate metal paint to give texture. The toys had to be completely dismantled and each part was repainted. Paint is applied in multiple layers to ensure the colouring is in perfect condition.

Miyuki Dori Cat: Tokyo's Famous Street Kitty

Move over, Hello Kitty! Japan has a new real-life kitty sensation that's winning hearts around Tokyo. Shoppers in the busy area of Ginza were surprised and delighted by this adorable cat perched atop the Miyuki Dori street sign - seemingly oblivious to the commotion, while striking poses for curious passers-by, who are all-too-eager to take snaps on their mobile phones and cameras.

Plus we investigate an area of East Coast Park near Fort Road.

Avengers: Age of Ultron trailer features Hulk vs Hulkbuster

The trailer for the new Avengers movie, Avengers: Age of Ultron is out. Synopsis: With S.H.I.E.L.D. destroyed and the Avengers needing a hiatus from stopping threats, Tony Stark attempts to jumpstart a dormant peacekeeping program with Ultron, a self-aware, self-teaching, artificial intelligence. However, his plan backfires when Ultron decides that humans are the main enemy and sets out to eradicate them from Earth, and it is up to Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, the Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye, along with support from Nick Fury and Maria Hill, to stop him from enacting his plans. Along the way, the Avengers encounter the powerful twins, Pietro and Wanda Maximoff, as well as the familiar Vision.

Ultron is voiced by the amazing James Spader. What is interesting in this trailer is that Tony Stark still has his Iron Man armors, at least some of them. And one of them, the heavy duty Hulkbuster will be used to fight against Hulk.

Avengers: Age of Ultron  comes out in April 2015. Long wait.

The Key Question: New Mystery Game Show

Recently I was asked to direct a new mystery game show called The Key Question. The first episode is out. The show is hosted by newly crowned Miss Singapore Tourism Queen International, Luisa Gan. GH4 Slow Motion at 96FPS

An earlier test I did of the slow motion capabilities of the GH4 shot at 96fps. The variable frame rate function of the GH4 changes the frame rate in shooting when recording the data, which realizes unique fast-motion and slow-motion effect. Value can be set between 2fps and 96fps.

STGCC 2014: Hot Toys Iron Man Bones, Peacemaker, Python

A close up look at Hot Toys new Iron Man Bones, Peacemaker and Python collectible figures that were on show at Singapore Toy Game Comic Convention 2014 (STGCC 2014).

The 1/6th scale Bones (Mark XLI) Collectible Figure has a finely crafted structure, black and gold colored armor, LED light-up functions and accessories. It has specially designed magnetic components which allow it to be split into multiple parts and re-attach back together at will.

The 1/6th scale Peacemaker (Mark XXXVI) Collectible Figure features special metallic orange, dark grey and silver painting with distress effect on armor, LED light-up functions, and figure base.

Visitors to Singapore Toy Game and Comic Convention (STGCC 2014) were treated to an awesome Iron Giant cosplay by Orvis Evans. The costume took more than 6 months to make and was made using PVC pipes, plastic, foam and even parts from a toilet!

I had so much fun covering this year's STGCC for R3LOAD Network and I'm looking forward to a better STGCC next year! The Hot Toys booth is always my favourite and of course, the cosplayers this year are fantastic. There were really some awesome cosplay designs. A Guide to the Transformers and Dinobots in Transformers 4 Age Of Extinction

Can't tell who is who in Transformers Age Of Extinction? Here's a guide to the Transformers in their robot and car/alt modes in the new Transformers film. Now complete with character bios! Do note that the Dinobots in the film are not as colourful as the ones depicted in the video above. The toy version of the Dinobots have been given colourful paint jobs for the sole purpose of attracting kids to buy the toys.

The top spender of the night walked away with a Gold-Chrome Transformers 4 Optimus Prime Leader (with display case) which is limited to Toys R Us Star Card members only.





Fans also put their skills to the test in a race against fellow fans to convert Transformers figurines and have their photos taken with their favourite Transformers characters. Casts from local movie Ah Boys To Men were also there to interact with the fans.

New Transformers Age of Extinction theatrical trailer reveals fire breathing Grimlock

New theatrical trailer for Transformers Age of Extinction is out. "This is not war. It's human extinction," says Optimus Prime in the trailer. But my favourite line is when Optimus says they need a new army and out comes Grimlock! Not sure if I've ever seen a fire breathing T-Rex but hey this is a Michael Bay film so what the heck! I can't wait for Transformers Age of Extinction! Screen captures here.

Scandal's DP reveals how they shot the show

I love Scandal and I can't wait for the new season. Oliver Bokelberg has been shooting the show on the Arri Alexa camera. Over the at Arri website, you can read about how Oliver and his team do their work: "Bokelberg plays with subjective and objective camera placement. Using two and sometimes three cameras has prompted the filmmakers to move beyond standard coverage. In keeping with the secretive subject matter, watching the show often feels like peering in on a conversation from another room."

Mama Zuma's Revenge potato chips and its bizarre background story

I bought Mama Zuma's Revenge potato chips at Mexican and Latin grocery Belmonte Latin Foods mainly because I've never seen it before in Singapore and also because the wrapper says "these chips are made with some of the hottest peppers on the planet." Being a spicy food lover, I'm always game to try out really hot stuff. After biting into the chips, I have to say Mama Zuma's Revenge is the spiciest potato chips I've eaten!  Here's an advice: Get ready plenty of glasses of water if you eat these chips.

On the back of the wrapper, they wrote down a rather interesting and funny background story about Mama Zuma's Revenge. Here it is: "Get too close to Mama Zuma and you will get burned. This woman is determined to scorch everyone in her path. Mama Zuma's weapons are the hottest jalapeno and habanero pepers this side of the Rio Grande. Since she lost the love of her life in a bizarre and tragic accident, Mama Zuma has been hell bent on turning every mouth she kisses with her special brand of passion." With a story like that, how can you not want to try Mama Zuma's Revenge aye?

I was at this Mexican grocery called Belmonte Latin Foods and spotted this cool drink called Boing. I thought I should put the two bottles together so that the words on the bottles read out Boing Boing, one of my favourite blogs.

Now you can use Getty Images on your blogs and your social media sites without being sued. Getty launched their new embed feature that makes it easy, legal, and free for anybody to share their images. Go search the images and embed but remember that the embedded photos are only for non-commercial use.

Oscar Party photographer shares what's inside his kitbag

Entertainment photographer Larry Busacca on the tools he used to shoot the photos at the 2014 Vanity Fair Oscar Party: "The D4 was used as the main camera for the majority of the party photos and much of the red carpet. The D-800 was dedicated to the images shot with the Profoto lighting I hung on the lighting truss on the red carpet."

Cut Copy makes 3D printed music video

Cut Copy's new music video We Are Explorers was made with 200 3D printed figurines. From CoCreate: The project would require roughly 200 figurines which were used in groups of eight, for each type of movement--that is, running sequences used eight figurines, looped, to create the effect. The figurines were printed with a yellow, UV-reactive filament, and shot at night under black light flashlights." You can download the 3D files for free, print them and re-imagine the narrative with your own stop-motion!

Black Widow tries to hook up Captain America on a date

Marvel has released a 4 minute long clip (together with a trailer) from Captain America: The Winter Soldier. In the clip, Captain America and Black Widow infiltrate an ocean liner taken over by Batroc.

AT-AT Rocker is perfect for the young Darth Vader

Jen from EPBOT has completed her AT-AT rocker project: "We added a seat back and extra sturdy T-bar handle for safety, plus some extra-long bumpers on the bottom rails to prevent the rocker from rocking too far." The AT-AT Rocker will be up for a charity auction at Megacon thanks to Florida Garrison of the 501st Legion.

Chocolate Chip Cookie Milk Shots

Dominique Ansel, the chef and owner of Dominique Ansel Bakery, drinks milk the way I think it should be drunk. From his Instagram: "Chocolate Chip Cookie Milk Shots for #SXSW and our event on Sunday night." Now all we need is a recipe. Yum!
