The Hans Brinker Budget Hotel Amsterdam takes honesty to the extreme with its infamous communication campaign, revered and reviled in equal measure. Check out this advertising poster: "Hans Brinker Budget Hotel is proud to be dirty and carry a wide variety of bacteria." Now, who in their right mind would really want to stay in such a dirty hotel? I was really curious so I checked out several hotel review sites and guess what, people do stay there! Trip Advisor has 69 reviews! One reviewer sums it up best:
This hostel was the worst I've ever seen! 4 of us booked a 6 bed room. When we arrived, two guys staying in our room informed us that they had found bed bugs in their beds and were covered in bites. They checked out the next morning. They had obviously complained to the staff because their beds were stripped and no new linens were put on them. When we found bugs in our suitcases, we'd had enough. We complained to the staff, who denied knowing anything about the bugs, and eventually we had to speak to the manager. He told us they were full and there was nothing they could do. He also denied responsibility for the bed bugs, saying that other people bring them in and what is he supposed to do. After some major complaining, he managed to come up with two double rooms. He said he would move their occupants (probably to our bug infested room). Our second set of rooms were dirty. The linens obviously hadn't been changed since he kicked out the first guests. The staff was incredibly rude at check out. Do not stay here! There are better hostels in Amsterdam. Trying the Flying Pig. In addition to all of this, the breakfast was meager (white bread, a piece of cheese, butter), and the facilities were dismal. Terrible experience with this hostel. Unless you want bed bugs, don't stay here!
