We've all stumbled across a 404 error page before. It is usually a boring white page with an error message indicating that the client was able to communicate with the server but either the server could not find what was requested, or it was configured not to fulfill the request and not reveal the reason why.
The folks at Smashing Magazine recently asked their readers to design their own 404 pages. Take a look at the 40 working examples of user-friendly, creative and outstanding 404 error pages submitted by their readers here.
