World's tallest free-standing structure
Burj Dubai in Dubai is now the world's tallest free-standing structure. At 555m tall, it has surpassed the previous record holder, the CN Tower in Toronto, Canada by a mere 2m.
In July, the developers of Burj Dubai announced that it has overtaken Taipei 101 in Taiwan as the world's tallest building.
Still under construction, the final height and number of storeys of Burj Dubai have not been revealed. It will be completed in 2008-9. It will have residential, commercial and retail components and the world's first Armani Hotel.
