SMRT to install platform screen doors... finally!
I've just been informed that SMRT will install half height screen doors at all above ground MRT stations soon. I've written before in the past that platform screen doors such as the ones in Hong Kong (see picture above) could be the answer to Singapore's MRT suicide problem. I'm waiting to get some official news confirmation regarding this. Will update.
Update: The $112 million contract for the job went to Singapore Technologies Electronics and will be done by 2012. ST Electronics have previously installed platform screen doors for Taiwan's Kaohsiung Rapid Transit Corporation and they also did the platform gate doors for Sentosa Express.

Contract awarded by LTA and not SMRT.
I guess someone is tired of picking up dead bodies stucked under trains.
for those of u who want to jump the tracks.. please do so quick before the screen doors are up :oP
Does that mean we will have to pay more to ride MRT soon?
good move. it will definitely make it harder for someone to jump onto the tracks.
they can still climb the screen doors but hopefully when they do that, someone would notice them and press the emergency button.
112 million dollars to installed some stupid doors?
Eng: How else is the LTA going to fund this?
Yishun, Jurong East, Pasir ris ..get it first ...
Wana die go die some other place lah. Waste our time only. So good work LTA!
