SingTel confirms iPhone distribution in Singapore

After months of keeping its mouth shut, SingTel finally announced that it has roped in some friends to sell the iPhone in Singapore, India, Australia and Philippines later this year. From Reuters:
Singapore Telecommunications Ltd and its mobile associates will bring Apple Inc's popular iPhone to Singapore, India, Australia and the Philippines later this year, Southeast Asia's largest phone company said on Monday.

SingTel said that it, Bharti Airtel Ltd, Globe Telecom Inc and Australian unit Optus had signed the agreement with Apple.
SingTel did not mention any date for the iPhone arrival in Singapore in its news release but I'm still betting on 08.08.2008. Heh.

Update: Great news! Apparently SingTel did not get the exclusive rights to sell the iPhone in Singapore. Both StarHub and MobileOne Ltd expect to sell iPhone later this year too. (Thanks GeekGod)
