Update: It ain't pretty and it ain't a thrashing but England is now through to the knockout stage thanks to two late goals by Peter Crouch and Steve Gerrard. Final score is England 2-0 Trinidad.

Look at it this way. England has never won its first two World Cup matches before even back in 1966 when they won in the final. Now they have done it. Congrats to them.

They played very poorly in their first two games and won.
Playing long ball is good but not all the time. They have to vary their playing style. More one-twos, more dribbling past players, more short passes.
The midfield needs a lot of reworking. Owen also needs to find his touch.
