Video of primitive shark caught in Japan

If there is an award for the ugliest fish, I'm sure the frilled shark would probably win it hands down (or in this case, fins down!). This video taken by the staff at the Awashima Marine Park in Shizuoka, south of Tokyo, shows a rare footage of a frilled shark. A fisherman at a nearby port spotted an odd-looking eel-like creature with a mouthful of needle-sharp teeth and alerted the marine park staff. The frilled shark is a primitive shark species, sometimes called a "living fossil" because it resembles extinct species of sharks. Frilled sharks are usually found at depths of around 2,000 feet, but this one somehow found its way into shallow water off the coast of Japan. The poor shark died shortly after it was caught.
